Robert E. Beckner III — Merlin — has been writing software for more than 25 years, from teenage developer to AI systems architect. The record spans federal systems for the IRS, DHS, CDC, and DISA, private-sector automation, and production AI platforms.
The work has two registers. One is engineering: infrastructure that monitors national systems, automation that removes hours of manual work, platforms that hold up in production. The other is writing: first-principles philosophy on knowledge, discourse, and the responsibilities of public reasoning.
Today he is the founder of Granis AI — central intelligence for organizations — and co-founder of Activate, the free canvassing platform for local campaigns. He continues to architect AI systems and advise the people building with them.
